Kuchisake-onna

口裂け女

Kuchisake-onna is the spirit of a young woman who hides the lower part of her face behind a large mask. She asks grade-schoolers on their way home, "Am I pretty?". If they say she is, she removes her mask to reveal that her mouth is open all the way to the ears, and chases after them. If they say she's not, it is said that she cuts you down on the spot.
